This week's training sessions were a bit of a rollercoaster.  The weather was all over the place.  My mindset was all over the place.  With a meltdown in the middle of my 10-mile run on Saturday and then feeling like a rockstar running up the bridge on Tuesday, I was reminded that it is commitment (not motivation) that gets us through the training volume we need to do what we do. Tuesday Training Update

Training is in full effect with a C race (Southern Ultra Relay) and 2 A Races within striking distance after that.  Coach Sami has upped the bike mileage with a 50 miler on Sunday with the Salty Turtle Beer Company Bicycle Club and strength sessions on the trainer on both Friday and Tuesday.  I like bike training, it makes me feel strong!   Running is going better than it has in years.  I am finally consistent and what a difference that has made.  Silly that it took me 8 years in the sport to learn that periodization does not mean full out or not at all ;-)   Ok ok, maybe I *knew* that - but I really did not want it to be true... it is so true!  I am actually even liking running and may have had a moment of a runner's high during one of my push miles on Saturday. Swimming is my happy place.  I even learned 2 new drills this week! Training Totals Jan 5-Jan11: Swim: 5151 yds Bike: 83.4 miles Run: 18.5 miles (+4 more tonight) Strength/Mobility: 2.5 hours Upcoming Races: Jan 22: Sout

Prepare for the Indoor Triathlon! Guest Author: Coach Trent Hayden

Hello Triathletes and soon-to-be Triathletes! My name is Coach Trent and I’m here to help you begin the journey we call triathlon.  Triathlon is swimming, biking, and running, and is also so much more.  It’s about community, having fun, being healthy, and stepping outside our comfort zone.  So you’ve decided to sign up for The Cape Fear Indoor Triathlon , now what?  Below is a beginner indoor triathlon training plan.  Follow this plan and you’re sure to find success on February 12th!  Remember, triathlon is more fun the more friends you have doing it with you, so get out there and get the whole family involved! Run:  In the training plan runs are grey.  We will be using three efforts to gauge how easy or hard we should be running.  Now, we are all “special snowflakes” so no two of us will be going the exact same pace during a workout.  My hard effort might be your easy effort etc.  So it’s important to determine your perceived effort for each interval.  The best way to think about th

But studies show one-third of resolutioners don’t make it past the end of January. Often, goals are too vague or lack a realistic action plan. To be successful, resolutions should not only be doable, but meaningful, too. Living a more sustainable lifestyle has a multitude of benefits, from improving quality of life to protecting our ecosystems and preserving natural resources. And because an enviro-friendly lifestyle revolves around reusable products, you’ll save money at the same time. Ju
